1 Dead in Oceanside Auto Accident on Douglas Drive and N River Road

OCEANSIDE, CA (July 8, 2024) – Sunday night, a marine died in a devastating 2-vehicle crash on Douglas Drive and N River Road.

The incident happened at about 7:50 p.m. on Douglas Drive and N River Road intersection.

Reports confirmed that the crash involved two vehicles, including a motorcycle and a white Volkswagen sedan.

According to OPD Traffic Services Unit Sgt. Clint Bussey, a collision occurred when a Volkswagen, traveling north on Douglas Drive, made a left turn into the AMPM gas station and struck a motorcyclist heading south on Douglas. 

he motorcyclist, a 20-year-old Marine, was ejected from his motorcycle and suffered fatal injuries. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until his family is notified.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 64-year-old woman from Carlsbad, was uninjured and cooperated with law enforcement on the scene. Sgt. Bussey noted that there was no indication of driving under the influence on the part of the Volkswagen driver.
The crash resulted in the temporary closure of all southbound lanes of Douglas Drive. 

As of 10:30 p.m., one lane remained closed while authorities continued their investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Officer Kevin Lissner of OPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team at 760-435-4651.
