MERCEDES, TX (December 18, 2023) – Saturday night, a devastating 2-vehicle accident on Mile 2 East and Mile 8 Road killed 1 person.

The incident happened at about 10:50 p.m. on north Mile 2 East and Mile 8 Road, according to police spokesperson Sgt. Frank Sanchez.

Meanwhile, the preliminary investigation suggested that the driver who was at fault was believed to be under the influence of alcohol. He was declared dead as a result of the crash.

Meanwhile, the victims of the second vehicle were taken to a local hospital for injuries. One victim was airlifted to a trauma center, added Sanchez.
