38-Year-Old Motorcyclist Killed in DUI Crash on Highway 49 at Cherry Creek Road
GRASS VALLEY, CA (September 26, 2019) – A woman was arrested following a fatal DUI crash late Thursday afternoon in Grass Valley.
The crash happened just after 5:00 p.m. on Highway 49 near Cherry Creek Road.
CHP officials said a 21-year-old Destiny Schwartz of Cedar Ridge was driving her SUV northbound when she veered into the opposite side of traffic. She lost control when she drove back into the northbound lane, causing her SUV to overturn.
A motorcyclist who was also heading northbound then crashed into the damaged SUV. The rider, a 38-year-old Grass Valley resident, died at the scene.
Schwartz was determined to have been driving under the influence of pot and possibly prescription pills. Authorities arrested her with charges of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
Investigation of this incident is still ongoing.
