Alabama Man Derris Kennedy Struck and Killed on Highway 41 in Fresno

Fresno, CA (October 18, 2020) – On Saturday, 40-year-old Derris Kennedy of Alabama died in a pedestrian accident on the Highway 41 and Highway 180 interchange.

The deadly accident happened at about 1:30 a.m. when a vehicle hit Kennedy as he was walking in the traffic lanes of Highway 41.

A 2001 Suzuki Vitara traveling southbound at about 65 mph was not able to avoid him as he approached the Highway 180 connector.

When officers arrived, they found that Kennedy, who appeared to be a transient, was walking within travel lanes of the ramp at the time of the incident.

The authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.

Further, authorities have not yet identified why he was walking within the roadway.

On the other hand, the rescuers took the driver, a 60-year-old Sanger man, to Community Regional Medical Center. He sustained major injuries.

Meanwhile, the CHP said alcohol or drugs were not believed to be a factor in the Fresno pedestrian accident.
