Yijie Mao Arrested after Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash near Edison Avenue

 
CHINO, CA (February 17, 2019) – An off-duty San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy was killed early Sunday morning following a suspected DUI crash near Edison Avenue. The victim was later identified as Deputy Nicholas O’Loughlin, a resident of Chino Hills.
 
According to the Chino Police Department, the incident happened at about 12:30 AM. A 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by the deputy, was heading south on Euclid Avenue when it was struck by a westbound 2014 BMW compact SUV.
 
O’Loughlin suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Meanwhile, the BMW driver, identified as 26-year-old Yijie Mao of Alhambra, was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury. Mao was in custody at the Central Detention Facility in San Bernardino, in lieu of $250,000 bail.
 
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fatal crash and to identify other possible contributing factors.
