San Bernardino Deputy Killed in High-Speed Pursuit Crash
Victorville, CA (March 18, 2025) – 36-year-old Hector Cuevas Jr. was killed on Monday morning after a high-speed pursuit crash on El Evado Road.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the fatal incident happened before 11 a.m. at the intersection of El Evado and Seneca roads.
Authorities say that Cuevas was a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy, a six-year department veteran.
Reports say that the deputy died in a high-speed pursuit crash on Monday. The chase began when 22-year-old Ryan Dwayne Turner Jr. failed to yield in a stolen vehicle.
Officials say that Cuevas collided with another vehicle. The impact split his patrol car in half and brought down nearby power lines. A woman in a black sedan sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital in unknown condition.
Cuevas, assigned to the Victorville Station for the past three years, died at the scene. Law enforcement and community members honored him with a motorcade procession.
He is survived by his wife, two children, parents, and siblings. Colleagues remembered him as a dedicated officer and a loving family man.
Authorities arrested Turner, who has a history of fleeing law enforcement, and booked him on charges of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and evading police causing serious injury or death. Prosecutors seek to hold him without bail.
Governor Gavin Newsom ordered flags at the State Capitol to be flown at half-staff in honor of Deputy Cuevas.

What Can Be Done Following a Deadly Crash?
Filing a wrongful death claim in case of a deadly collision can offer crucial benefits to the bereaved. One of the most immediate advantages is the potential for financial compensation, which can help cover funeral expenses, medical bills incurred before the death, and lost wages that the deceased would have provided to their family.
Similarly, compensation may account for the loss of companionship, guidance, and emotional support, which can be an overwhelming emotional and financial burden.
A wrongful death claim can also help ensure that the responsible party is held accountable for their actions. Whether the collision was caused by reckless driving, impaired driving, or other forms of negligence, filing a lawsuit can provide a sense of justice and closure for the grieving family. It can also serve to deter future negligent behavior, promote safer driving practices, and potentially prevent future accidents.
