Gusty Winds Causes Eucalyptus Tree to Fall onto Vehicle near Walnut Avenue
TUSTIN, CA (October 15, 2018) – A woman was killed Monday morning after a large tree fell on her car at an apartment complex on Red Hill Avenue near Walnut Avenue. The victim was later identified as 34-year-old Dennet Bermas, a resident of Tustin.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, the incident took place at about 9:15 AM in the 14000 block of Red Hill. Bermas had been backing her gray Toyota sedan out of the carport when a 40-foot eucalyptus tree fell on her car.
The victim’s neighbor, identified as Danny McCabe, attempted to help the trapped woman. However, live wires made it impossible for McCabe to go near the wrecked vehicle. It was also noted that the winds were incredibly strong at the time of the incident.
Bermas suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. No other injuries were reported by the authorities.
An investigation is ongoing to identify other possible contributing factors in the fatal incident. No further details have been provided to the public at this time.
