Demarr Sims Dies in DUI Collision on Rancho Drive
Las Vegas, NV (September 23, 2022) On Thursday morning, 50-year-old Prentiss Bates was arrested in a fatal DUI crash on Rancho Drive that killed a 40-year-old man.
LVMPD says that Bates was on a southbound Jeep Grand Cherokee, moving at a high rate of speed, around 2:18 a.m. near West Red Coach Avenue.
Reports say that the jeep struck a raised median and crossed over to the southbound lanes. Consequently, the Jeep struck a parked Chevrolet Avalanche with a 40-year-old man inside.
The collision seriously injured the Chevy driver. Paramedics rushed him to UMC.
Unfortunately, the man, identified as Demarr Sims, succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital.
Meanwhile, police say that Bates remained at the scene, however, he was showing signs of impairment. Additionally, Bates claimed injuries and medics transported him to UMC as well.
Authorities arrested Prentiss Bates on suspicion of DUI resulting in death. Furthermore, Bates was previously arrested for driving under the influence on at least two prior occasions. In 2013, he killed a Jim Edd Burchette in the separate DUI accident.
