One Killed and Two Injured in Multi-Car Crash on State Route 104
POULSBO, WA (May 18, 2018) – A collision involving multiple vehicles claimed the life of a woman and left two others injured on the Hood Canal Bridge. 65-year-old Debra Clyde, a resident of Port Ludlow, was identified as the deceased victim in the early Thursday evening accident.
As per police reports, the deadly crash started around 5 PM. A gray GMC Sierra truck, driven by 47-year-old Eric Thompson of Hansville, was heading east on State Route 104.
For unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed over into the westbound lanes, where he sideswiped a Kenworth flat-bed trailer.
Thompson collided head-on with Clyde’s Ford Ranger pickup after a second vehicle swerved to avoid the collision. The Ford pickup then struck two more vehicles before coming to a rest. The impact of the crash critically injured Clyde and she was declared dead at the scene.
A driver involved in the collision, 45-year-old Bosha Haslakiewicz-Kuan of Houston, Texas, was transported to Jefferson Healthcare Hospital in Port Townsend. Authorities stated that she received treatment for her unspecified injuries and was recently discharged. Meanwhile, Thompson was airlifted to the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Other drivers and passengers present in the crash were reportedly unharmed.
The bridge was temporarily shut down for an investigation and reopened to the public around 12:45 AM.
Investigators are still trying to determine if Thompson was impaired at the time of the collision and what might have caused him to suddenly switch lanes. It was also noted that all drivers and passengers were secured in a seatbelt.
