Driver Fatally Struck by Own Car in Multi-Vehicle Crash on 91 Freeway at Cherry Avenue
LONG BEACH, CA (January 21, 2020) – 21-year-old David Kim Jr. of Los Angeles died in a multi-vehicle crash Tuesday evening in Long Beach.
The crash happened around 10:45 p.m., on westbound 91 Freeway near Cherry Avenue.
According to the CHP, Kim Jr. was driving a 1998 Honda CR-V when he collided with another vehicle. He exited his car after the crash but was instructed to move his SUV to the right shoulder.
 
As he was returning to his car, another two vehicles struck the CR-V. The impact caused the CR-V to hit Kim Jr.
Paramedics rushed Kim Jr. to a hospital, where he was later declared dead.
Another driver that was involved was hospitalized with minor injuries.
CHP officers continue to investigate the fatal crash. Investigators encourage witnesses to cooperate and reach out as soon as possible.
