27-year-old Man Dies and 1 Injured in Hemet Car Accident on Kirby Street

 
HEMET, CA (May 14, 2020) – 27-year-old David Jones sustained fatal injuries in a suspected DUI crash on Kirby Street on May 12.
 
According to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office, the single-vehicle crash happened after 8:00 p.m. on North Kirby Street, just south of Fruitvale Avenue. Upon the arrival of the authorities, they declared David Jones of Hemet dead at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, Hemet police Sgt. Dan Reinbolt revealed that David Jones was a passenger of 26-year-old Ernie Alaniz of San Jacinto. Alaniz was driving a 2019 Acura and have suffered major injuries in the crash.
 
The sergeant added that Alaniz was heading south on Kirby “when he accelerated and lost control of the vehicle.”
 
“Alaniz drove onto the sidewalk on the west side of Kirby, where he collided into a tree,” Reinbolt added. “Witnesses report Alaniz displayed erratic driving behavior prior to the collision.”

According to Sgt. Reinbolt, Alaniz was in serious but stable condition.

“DUI is suspected, and the investigation is ongoing,” said the sergeant.
