Driver Dies after Vehicle Crashes into Tree near Mile Marker 30.87

WILLITS, CA (December 30, 2018) – A man was killed Sunday evening following a solo-vehicle accident near mile marker 30.87. The victim was later identified as 34-year-old David Carlos Amador, a resident of Willits.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened on Highway 20, at about 10:00 PM. Amador was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his Honda CR-V and failed to negotiate a curve in the road.

The vehicle traveled off the roadway, drove through a fence and down a dirt embankment before hitting a tree and overturning. Amador, who was the sole occupant of the Honda, suffered fatal injuries and died at the time of the crash.

Due to the late hour and the heavy fog, the collision was not reported until approximately 12:37 PM the next day. Representatives of the Ukiah CHP, Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office, Willits Fire, and VeriHealth responded to the scene at about 12:50 PM. Willits Fire utilized Pneumatic extraction tools to remove the victim from the wrecked vehicle.

Neither drugs nor alcohol is believed to have played a role in the incident, which remains under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to cooperate with investigators as soon as possible. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
