ONTARIO, CA (July 2, 2020) – On Wednesday morning, 35-year-old Daun Sanders and the dog he carried died after a being struck by a vehicle on the 15 Freeway.
 
Some witnesses revealed that they last saw the victim at 4:25 a.m. He drove a GMC pickup north on the southbound No. 4 lane, north of Fourth Street.
 
According to reports, the man ran onto the lanes of 15 Freeway with a dog after driving in the wrong direction.
 
CHP Officer Jesus Garcia, a department spokesman, revealed that a semi-truck traveled south in the same lane.
 
The driver noticed the oncoming pickup and attempted to swerve. However, the driver failed to avoid the crash. Consequently, the pickup sideswiped the semi-truck.
 
After the crash, the pickup driver steered around to correct the direction. Then, he headed south until the vehicle crashed with the freeway center-median wall, south of Jurupa Street.
 
The driver then went out of the pickup while carrying a dog with him. Afterward, he jumped the median into the freeway’s northbound lanes. Unfortunately, a car struck him as he attempted to run across the freeway.
 
The San Bernardino coroner’s office later revealed the identity of the victim as Daun Sanders, a resident of Shingletown.
