Kidnapping Suspected Fatally Injured in Two-Vehicle Collision on Peralta Street
EMERYVILLE, CA (June 10, 2018) – A woman was killed Sunday afternoon and two others were hospitalized after a fiery two-car collision near the Oakland-Emeryville border. The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau identified 40-year-old Daphne Bailey as the fatality in this incident.
According to the San Francisco Police, the deadly collision took place at 3:19 PM at the intersection of West MacArthur Boulevard and Peralta Street. Officers had been tailing a stolen white car believed to be involved in a kidnapping when it collided with a silver Chrysler.
The impact of the collision sent the white vehicle spinning before slamming into a streetlight pole and catching fire.
The incident reportedly started with an assault on Leavenworth Street, shortly before 3:00 PM. Bailey and 42-year-old Michael Brown allegedly forced a woman into the trunk of a car. The woman was able to escape from the trunk by using an emergency lever from inside, authorities stated.
Passersby helped the police get the male driver out of the burning vehicle, but Bailey was left inside. The man was transported to a hospital where he was listed under critical condition, while Bailey was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chrysler sustained minor injuries and was also taken to a hospital for treatment.
Brown was charged with murder, human trafficking, kidnapping, and domestic violence. No other information is available to the public at this time.
We extend our sympathies to the family and friends of Daphne Bailey. May she rest in peace.
