Daniel Barrera Dead and 1 Injured in Fresno Accident on Church Avenue and Sunnyside Avenue

 
FRESNO, CA (March 2, 2021) – Sunday morning, Daniel Barrera died in a crash on Church Avenue and Sunnyside Avenue.
 
Moreover, the incident occurred around 6:00 a.m. on Church Avenue and Sunnyside Avenue.
 
According to Lt. Rob Beckwith, a BMW driver traveling south on Sunnyside Avenue didn’t stop at the stop sign at Church Avenue.
 
Afterward, the BMW broadsided the eastbound Chevy truck’s driver’s side on Church Avenue.
 
The officers confirmed that the BMW rammed into a residential brick wall near the southeast corner of the intersection. Then, they found no one was in the heavily damaged car.
 
On the other hand, the heavily damaged Chevy on the driver’s side stopped in the northbound lanes of Sunnyside Avenue. A man and a young boy occupied the Chevy.
 
Responders transported the man to Community Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
 
Eventually, authorities identified him as 34-year-old Daniel Barrera of Sanger. Meanwhile, the 8-year-old occupant was Barrera’s son. Responders took him to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
 
As the officers worked at the scene, they received a report of a man banging on the door of a nearby house.
 
When they arrived, they located the BMW driver who was heavily intoxicated. Authorities identified him as 24-year-old Miguel Angel Escamilla of Fresno.
 
Authorities detained him on suspicion of multiple felonies, including DUI while causing death or injury, hit and run, and gross vehicular manslaughter. Furthermore, he’s being accused of being an unlicensed driver.
 
The police booked Escamilla into the Fresno County Jail.
