Passenger Injured in Port Island Fatal Crash
Port Isabel, TX (June 26, 2023) On Sunday, 18-year-old Damian Martinez, of Brownsville died after a rollover collision on Highway 48.
According to TxDPS, the deadly traffic accident happened around 3:11 a.m. on State Highway 48, south of Port Isabel.
Reports say that Martinez was driving an eastbound 2008 Mercedes Benz when he lost control when making a curve and went over the shoulder and through a grassy area.
The vehicle rolled over several times and ejected Martinez out of the vehicle. MArtinez wsa not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Officials say that Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene, while the passenger inside of the Mercedes was transported to Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville.
Authorities say that impairment may have played a factor in the deadly traffic accident.
DPS is investigating the rollover collision and have not released further information at this time.
