33-Year-Old Woman Dies in Multiple-Vehicle Crash on Highway 78 near Mar Vista Drive
VISTA, CA (August 5, 2018)– A woman was fatally injured in a multiple-vehicle collision on the North County Freeway, early Sunday morning. The deceased victim was later identified by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office as 33-year-old Dalila Perez.
According to California Highway Patrol officials, Perez was driving westbound on Highway 78 near Mar Vista Drive, around 2:15 AM.
For unknown reasons, she lost control of her car and veered into the dirt on the right shoulder, before drifting back across four traffic lanes. There, she crashed into the center divider. She was then hit by a Scion XB, driven by a 54-year-old San Marcos man. The impact of the second collision pushed the Corolla onto its side in the two right lanes, and threw Perez out of the vehicle and into the left lane. The Scion XB stopped in the left lane, where it was then rear-ended by a Scion XC, driven by a 38-year-old San Marcos man.
Perez succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Scion XB suffered major injuries, while all three people in the Scion XC sustained minor injuries. Authorities believe that the drivers of both Scions were under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident.
