4 People Hospitalized in Santa Cruz Traffic Accident on Highway 17 near La Madrona Drive

SANTA CRUZ, CA (December 19, 2023) – Sunday night, a crippling vehicle crash on Highway 17 near La Madrona Drive injured four people.

The incident happened at around 8:17 p.m. on southbound Highway 17, north of La Madrona Drive.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2000 Jeep Cherokee rear-ended a CHP patrol vehicle for still unknown reasons.

Moreover, responders transported the 24-year-old CHP Santa Cruz Officer to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center with moderate injuries. Then, paramedics transported the 25-year-old female driver of the Jeep, the 30-year-old male passenger, both with minor injuries and the 58-year-old female passenger with major injuries, to a hospital for treatment.

Furthermore, the crash closed southbound Highway 17 but has long since reopened.

Also, officers do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.

Due to limited information, the CHP continued to investigate the crash.
