Houston, TX (November 2, 2023) – On Thursday, a woman died in a crash on Interstate 45 Gulf Freeway.

The fatal crash occurred at the I-45 Gulf Freeway underpass, specifically at Airport Boulevard. Houston police reported that the woman was waiting at the intersection, anticipating the green light, when the speeding suspect forcefully rear-ended her vehicle. 

The impact propelled both cars through the intersection.

According to HPD, another driver waiting at the same intersection noticed the suspect’s rapid approach in her rearview mirror and successfully maneuvered out of harm’s way. Regrettably, the victim didn’t have the opportunity to react in time.

Authorities noted that the witness had been checking her rearview mirror and observed the approaching vehicle traveling at an exceptionally high speed. She made an evasive move, but the collision unfolded immediately after.

Tragically, the woman died at the crash scene. 

The suspect, on the other hand, was transported to the hospital and is expected to recover from their injuries.

Video footage from the scene portrays both the victim’s and the suspect’s vehicles as severely damaged, indicating the force of the collision.

Police is presently conducting an investigation to determine if alcohol played a role in the crash.
