2 Drivers Hospitalized After Crash on Highway 79 in Milam County

Milam County, TX (May 10, 2024) – Two people sustained injuries in a crash on Highway 79.

At approximately 5:21 p.m. Tuesday, the Texas Department of Public Safety arrived at the scene of a major crash with injuries on Highway 79, northeast of CR-356. 

A 2006 Ford Focus, driven by a 20-year-old man from Seguin, was heading north while a 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe, operated by a 51-year-old woman from Rockdale, was moving south and nearing the Ford Focus.

The lead Trooper investigating the crash reported that the Ford Focus driver ignored a no-passing zone and overtook another vehicle at a hillcrest, leading to a collision with the Hyundai in the southbound lane. 

The Department of Public Safety transported both drivers for treatment of incapacitating injuries. 

Authorities issued a citation to the Ford driver for disregarding a no-passing zone. 

The investigation into this incident remains active and ongoing.
