58-Year-Old Yountville Bicyclist Hospitalized after Collision with Pickup Truck near Lake Hennessey
NAPA, CA (September 30, 2018) – A man was injured Sunday evening following a bicycle crash on Highway 128 near Lake Hennessey. The victim was later identified as 58-year-old Craig Vogel, a resident of Yountville.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Vogel was riding his bicycle in the middle of the eastbound lane around a blind turn when he was rear-ended by a pickup truck.
The bicyclist sustained major injuries and was transported to the Queen of the Valley Medical Center. Updates on his current medical condition were not immediately available. Meanwhile, the pickup driver, identified as 33-year-old Odilon Martinezcastro of St. Helena, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the crash and to identify possible contributing factors. It was also noted that Vogel was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
