Wrong-Way Collision on Interstate 70 Claims Ricky Monroe’s Life [Independence, MO]

Independence, MO (January 29, 2025) On Tuesday morning, Ricky Monroe of Blue Springs was pronounced dead after a deadly wrong-way collision on Interstate 70.

According to Independence Police (IPD), the fatal crash happened at around 12:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-70.

Reports say that the deadly crash shut down traffic at Noland Road.

Authorities reported that a Toyota Camry, traveling eastbound collided with a Kia Optima. After the initial impact, the Camry continued moving and was struck by a semi-truck before being hit again by a Honda Accord.

The driver of the Kia Optima, identified as Monroe died at the scene. Two other individuals suffered severe injuries.

Independence Police stated that dispatch received multiple reports of the wrong-way driver just seconds before the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
