Hit-and-Run Bicycle Crash Reported on Clement Drive and Mendo Mill & Lumber
CLEARLAKE, CA (May 5, 2018) – A bicycle collision on Old Highway 53 left a male cyclist seriously injured, on Saturday evening. The driver involved reportedly fled the scene after striking the 22-year-old victim.
According to the Clearlake Police Department, the collision happened around 10:15 PM on Old Highway 53, in the area of Clement Drive and Mendo Mill & Lumber. The cyclist was on his bike heading northbound on the east side of the highway when a blue 1980’s Dodge pickup truck struck him from behind.
The impact of the collision ejected the man from his bicycle, throwing him onto the northbound lane.
The victim was airlifted to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment and evaluation. In recent updates, it was confirmed that the man is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
As per witnesses statements, the driver of the pickup truck stopped and exited the vehicle, but immediately went back in and left the scene. Police suspect that the car received a significant amount of damage, specifically on the front passenger side.
