Multi-Vehicle Pileup on 10 Freeway in Claremont Kills 1 and Injures 5

CLAREMONT, CA (March 24, 2019) – A man was killed and at least five other people were injured following a chain-reaction crash early Sunday morning in Claremont, CHP officials said.

The fatal crash happened just before 2:00 a.m., on westbound 10 Freeway near Indian Hill Boulevard. First responders arrived after receiving multiple dispatch calls in the area.

Preliminary investigations revealed a 2017 Dodge Charger, driven by 30-year-old Ronald Bogan of Long Beach, was traveling westbound on the freeway at an unsafe speed. He eventually crashed into a stopped 2018 Toyota Camry due to traffic from a temporary construction zone.

The impact pushed the Toyota forward, causing it to slam into another vehicle. The Dodge then collided with a BMW, started a chain reaction of collisions before veering into the center divider. At least 10 to 15 vehicles were involved in the accident.

The Toyota’s occupant, a 22-year-old unidentified Arizona man, was killed in the crash. His name has been withheld pending family notification.

Authorities said Bogan sustained minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene. Video showed paramedics treating and transporting at least four other injured people on scene.

All westbound lanes of the freeway were closed for almost five hours while evidence from the scene was collected and photographed. Crews also worked to clean up and finalize preliminary duties following the collision.
