Passenger Killed in High-Speed Crash Near Orange Cove; Driver Flees Scene
Orange Cove, CA (February 7, 2025) 36-year-old Ciriaco Santiago Gomez of Aberdeen died in a horrific vehicle crash on Manning Avenue Wednesday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the fatal incident happened at about 7:45 p.m. in Orange Cove.
Authorities identified Gomez as the passenger who died in the solo vehicle crash. The Fresno County Coroner’s Office released his identity on Thursday.
Reports say that a Honda Accord was speeding eastbound on Manning Avenue, when the driver abruptly swerved onto the right shoulder, crashing into multiple trees in an orange orchard before overturning.
Gomez, who was in the front passenger seat, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Meanwhile, the driver fled on foot before authorities arrived. Despite efforts by a CHP helicopter and the Orange Cove Police Department, officers could not locate the suspect.
CHP continues to investigate the incident and urges anyone with information about the crash or the driver’s whereabouts to call the Fresno Area CHP at 559-262-0400.
