Ciara Villegas Injured and Newborn Dies, Ronny Ward Arrested Following DUI Pedestrian Accident on M Street Near Rio Linda Boulevard

 
RIO LINDA, CA (April 11, 2019) – A woman and her newborn are fighting for their lives following Monday’s DUI crash on M Street near Rio Linda Boulevard.
 
According to California Highway Patrol, 31-year-old Ciara Villegas was six months pregnant as she stood next to her Chevy Impala around 8 p.m. Neighbors say she had just exited her vehicle when a westbound Jeep SUV, driven by Ronny Haines Ward, veered to the right and struck the Chevy Impala.
 
As a result of the impact, the Chevy propelled forward and struck the 31-year-old mother-to-be.
 
Paramedics arrived and transported Villegas to a hospital where medical professionals performed an emergency C-section to deliver her baby, named Ricky.
 
Baby Ricky died Wednesday, family members told KCRA. Villegas is still in the hospital, receiving treatment. The family is working help gather funds to cover medical costs with a GoFundMe page.
 
Following the accident, Ward stayed at the scene until CHP arrested him on suspicion of DUI and driving with a suspended license. Officers subsequently booked him into the Sacramento County Main Jail.
