Vehicle Crashes into Building Killing 2 People at 7831 Foothill Boulevard

SUNLAND, CA (April 2, 2018) – According to authorities, a car crashed into a duplex building on Foothill Boulevard early Monday morning, resulting in two casualties.

The victims were later identified as 21-year-old Christopher Ramirez of Pacoima, and 20-year-old Tayry Romero of Sylmar.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the accident was reported around 3:12 AM at a building located on 7831 West Foothill Boulevard. Responders found Ramirez and Romero inside the Infiniti sedan that crashed into a duplex.

Ramirez, who was a passenger in the sedan, was declared dead at the scene. While Romero, the driver, was extracted from the vehicle with the help of jaws of life. She was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, but later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead by medical professionals.

The duplex building was being used as a trucking dispatch business and a residence. The business unit was the side that received most damage, while the other unit that was inhabited by a family, was untouched.

Alexandra Enriquez and Manasi Dounkian, occupants of the duplex, feel fortunate that none of them were harmed in the collision, as the business was not open at the time it occurred.

Investigators are considering speed to be the main factor in the crash. It adds up to the information given by nearby business owners that most drivers would speed down the street at around 60 mph. Authorities are also waiting for toxicology reports to determine if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the fatal accident.

Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety officials confirmed that the collision affected the stability of the duplex building. No other information is available at the moment.

We offer our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Christopher Ramirez and Tayry Romero. May they rest in peace.
