REDDING, CA (June 19, 2019) – A 31-year-old Chico woman lost her life in a stolen car crash on Highway 299, Wednesday afternoon.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened near Old Alturas Road, at about 4:25 PM. Due to unknown reasons, a black 2004 Toyota Prius turned right and drove onto the south shoulder of the highway.

There, the vehicle crashed into the rear of a parked 2014 Western Star logging truck.

Emergency responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Authorities withheld her identity, pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, the truck driver, identified as 64-year-old Daniel Ralph Cox, did not sustain injuries in the crash.

Investigators believe that drugs may have been a contributing factor in the crash. They also noted that the Toyota Prius had been reported stolen. Additional information will be released to the public once it becomes available.
