24-Year-Old Chico Man Killed in Head-On Crash on Highway 99 and Nicolaus Avenue [Sutter County, CA]

1 Dead and 1 Injured in Sutter County Accident on Highway 99 and Nicolaus Avenue

 
SUTTER COUNTY, CA (January 17, 2022) – Sunday morning, a 24-year-old Chico man died in a head-on crash on Highway 99 and Nicolaus Avenue.
 
The incident occurred just before 2:00 a.m. on Highway 99 and Nicolaus Avenue.
 
According to reports, a 60-year-old San Jacinta man drove a 2017 Dodge 3500. He traveled south in a northbound lane of the highway at 55 mph. Then, the Jacinta man collided head-on with a 24-year-old Chico man driving north in a 2010 Honda Accord.
 
Moreover, the CHP confirmed that it was very foggy during the crash. They estimated a 75 feet visibility for both drivers. Thus, both of them failed to avoid the crash.
 
As a result, the 24-year-old Chico man died at the scene. Meanwhile, the San Jacinta man suffered major injuries.
 
At this time, the authorities haven’t determined whether drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.
 
Also, the incident shut down both directions of Highway 99 for about four hours during the investigation.
