Suspected Speeding and DUI Left Charles Mugo Dead and Another Teenager Seriously Injured in Spokane River Crash
Spokane, WA (May 12, 2020) – Monday, Charles Mugo was killed after a vehicle he was in became submerged in the Spokane River.
According to Peter Maxwell from KHQ, the teen was sitting in the backseat while another teen was driving the car. For unknown reasons, they struck a parked car. The impact resulted in the vehicle being thrown in the river.
The teen driver was rescued from the submerged car but he was unconscious. He was not able to tell the rescuers about his friend in the back seat.
Furthermore, the rescue team said that the dark and the fast movement of the water made the rescue even more difficult. They had to delay it until morning to see if there was another victim in the car.
Around 9:30 a.m., the next day when the submerged vehicle was retrieved.
The teen was identified by his friends and family who was about to celebrate his 17th birthday in two weeks.
Moreover, police suspected that speeding and DUI were a contributing factor to the crash.
