James Anderson Fatally Struck in Hit-and-Run DUI Collision on Nees and Chestnut

 
Fresno, CA (April 28, 2020) – Saturday afternoon, 19-year-old Carson Gates and James Anderson was arrested after a hit-and-run crash on Nees and Chestnut.
 
The collision between a car and a truck occurred around 3:00 p.m., on April 27. Gabrielle Bawcum said that her cousin Carson Gates was in a passenger seat while his girlfriend was driving.
 
Bawcum also said, “They had the right of way, they were just turning, they had a green light and the driver had a red light and he blew through it and he crashed into the passenger side and he killed my cousin instantly.”
 
An oncoming truck hit Gates’ vehicle which caused the collision on Nees and Chestnut. Due to the impact, the victim was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
 
Meanwhile, his girlfriend and the truck driver survived.
 
Following preliminary duties, police identified the suspect as James Anderson, who was intoxicated at the time the crash happened.
 
Friends and family of Gates were mourning for his untimely passing on Sunday night. They gathered in the Todd Beamer Park for a vigil because it was Gates’ favorite spot.
 
Bawcum remembered her cousin as a very responsible man. He was active in school and became an honor student in the class.
 

Police Arrest

 

Anderson was later arrested for vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and faces several other charges.
