Vista, CA (March 27, 2021) – On Friday, a 56-year-old Vista woman was injured, and police arrested 28-year-old Carmelo Hernandez Cruz of San Marcos in a DUI hit-and-run crash on South Santa Fe Drive.
 
The accident happened on Wednesday at about 6:30 p.m. at Palmyra Drive.
 
The woman was walking across the roadway on a green light when she was struck by a 2007 Toyota Tacoma driven by Cruz.
 
However, instead of stopping, Cruz backed up his truck and drove around the downed woman, and fled away.
 
Good Samaritans helped the victim before paramedics came. Then, she was taken to a hospital for treatment of severe injuries.
 
Meanwhile, officers arrested Cruz Friday morning and booked him into county jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and DUI causing major injury.
 
Cruz was held on $50,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for April 6.
