According to Santa Paula Police (SPPD), the tragic incident happened at about 3 p.m. on Santa Barbara Street.

Reports say that the tragic collision at the intersection of Santa Barbara and Davis Streets claimed the life on New Year’s Eve.

Santa Paula Police reported that a woman in her 70s was driving westbound on Santa Barbara Street around 3 p.m. Tuesday when her vehicle struck Villanueva, who was crossing northbound.

Emergency responders transported Villanueva to Ventura County Medical Center in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries the following afternoon.

The intersection only has stop signs for northbound and southbound traffic, while eastbound and westbound drivers on Santa Barbara Street do not stop. Authorities confirmed that the driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with the investigation but did not have a valid driver’s license.
