Car Passenger Dies in Suspected DUI crash on Northeast 3rd Street [Renton, WA]

Renton, WA (December 20, 2023) –  A car passenger was killed and others were injured in a suspected DUI crash on Northeast 3rd Street Tuesday afternoon.

It was before 12:07 p.m. when the head-on collision between a car and a school bus happened between Edmonds Avenue Northeast and Bronson Way Northeast.  

Renton PD’s Public Information Officer, Meeghan Black, stated “During the course of the collision the car was spinning and fishtailing and as it hit the school bus.”

Sadly, a passenger in the car was declared deceased and two people were rushed to a hospital. Officers said the occupants in the red sedan are all in their late teens or early 20s. 

Investigators believe the sedan’s driver may have been impaired when the accident happened. They also said speed and rain were both factors in the fatal accident.

Moreover, the school bus had four people at the time of the accident. They were two adult students, the school bus driver, and a student aid. None of them sustained injuries.

The students are part of a transition program for adults with special needs. These students coming from a special program at Renton Technical College. 

Meanwhile, the drug recognition experts will apply for a blood warrant while the car occupants are at the hospital.

Officers are still investigating.
