38-Year-Old Woman Killed in Pedestrian Crash near Tully Road
MODESTO, CA (August 25, 2018) – A woman was killed Saturday evening following a pedestrian crash near Tully Road. The victim was later identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as 38-year-old Cami Joan Pernia.
Pernia and a male pedestrian were standing in the median of Pelandale Avenue at about 8:30 PM, according to California Highway Patrol.
A westbound 2016 Honda Civic was approaching the pair when the man began to run across the roadway. At the last minute, the driver attempted to avoid the male pedestrian but swerved and struck Pernia instead.
The impact threw the victim more than 100 feet away from the scene. She was then rushed to the Doctors Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. Meanwhile, the male pedestrian and the driver, identified as 33-year-old Ceres resident Charles Anderson, did not suffer any injuries in the crash.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the accident and to identify possible contributing factors. It was also noted that Pernia was wearing dark clothing and may have been carrying furniture cushion when she was hit. Additional information has not yet been provided to the public at this time.
We at Sweet Law offer our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Cami Joan Pernia. May she rest in peace.
