3 Hospitalized after Rear-End Collision on I-15 near Ninth Avenue
ESCONDIDO, CA (May 25, 2018) – On Friday morning, a DUI collision on Interstate 15 hospitalized a Caltrans employee and two others.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at about 10:15 AM on the northbound I-15, just south of Ninth Avenue. An unidentified 26-year-old man was driving a Nissan Sentra, when he swerved off from the southbound lanes to the left, directly into the center divider area where a Caltrans Dodge Ram pickup truck was halted.
The rear-end collision injured the Caltrans worker, a Chula Vista resident whose identity was not immediately released. He was treated on the scene before being transported to the Palomar Medical Center with moderate injuries. The front passenger in the Sentra sustained major injuries, while the person in the back seat sustained moderate injuries. Both of them were also taken to Palomar. The driver of the Nissan complained of pain, but refused treatment and hospitalization.
Investigators believe that the driver of the Nissan was under the influence of drugs during the collision. He was later arrested by the authorities for driving while impaired. No updates have been released at this time.
