Battalion Chief Hospitalized after Vehicle Loses Control near Harley Knox Boulevard

PERRIS, CA (May 15, 2019) – A Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department battalion chief suffered injuries Wednesday afternoon following a two-vehicle collision on 215 Freeway.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened near Harley Knox Boulevard, at about 3:07 PM. A 2016 Chevrolet pickup, driven by the chief, swerved lanes and struck another vehicle. Then, his truck crossed all lanes, into the right shoulder, before colliding with a chain link fence and guard rail.

The Chevrolet came to rest near the railroad tracks, where it was almost hit by an oncoming Metrolink train.

Emergency responders transported the battalion chief to Riverside University Health System Medical Center, where he remains unconscious and intubated. Meanwhile, the other driver complained of pain but did not require hospitalization.

Investigators believe that the chief had a medical emergency at the time of the crash. Additional information will be released following the conclusion of the investigation.

If you find yourself in the middle of a medical emergency, immediately pull over to the side of the road. Strictly follow the rules of the road and do not attempt to drive when symptoms start to show. This way, you can prevent dangerous accidents.
