Banning Man Dies after His Car Overturns on 10 Freeway in Yucaipa

YUCAIPA, CA (August 7, 2019) – A man was killed following a rollover crash early Wednesday morning in Yucaipa.

The crash happened around 2:21 a.m., on 10 Freeway near Oak Glen Road. Dispatchers arrived to the area shortly after.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2008 Kia Sorento was traveling west on the freeway when for unknown reasons, it overturned and landed on its roof. Just minutes later, a 2009 Toyota Camry driven by a 56-year-old San Jacinto man, slammed into the disabled Kia.

As a result, the driver of the Kia succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. He was later identified as Caesar Augusto Ortiz Jr., 25, of Banning.

Due to debris from the crash, all westbound lanes of 10 Freeway were closed for several hours. One eastbound lane was also temporarily shut down. However, the roadway has since reopened.

CHP officials asked anyone who witnessed the crash to call Officer J. Gill at the San Bernardino CHP Office at (909) 383-4247.
