11-Year-Old Jenny Lind Elementary School Student Hospitalized after Pedestrian Crash near Highway 12
VALLEY SPRINGS, CA (September 24, 2018) – A boy was injured Monday afternoon following a pedestrian collision near Highway 12. The victim was later identified as 11-year-old Bryce Melendez, a Jenny Lind Elementary School student.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at about 3:07 PM. Melendez was standing near Toyon Middle School when he walked onto Double Springs Road outside of a marked crosswalk. There, he was struck by a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by 30-year-old Frances Barron of Valley Springs.
The young victim was taken to the Mark Twain Medical Center in San Andres with minor injuries and is expected to recover soon. Meanwhile, Barron stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Alcohol and drugs were ruled out as possible contributing in the crash, which remains under investigation. No other information has been disclosed to the public at this time.
