1 Dead in San Jose Auto Accident on Newell Avenue and Interstate 680

SAN JOSE, CA (January 1, 2025) – Sunday morning, a 15-year-old passenger died in a brutal single-vehicle crash on Newell Avenue and Interstate 680.

The incident happened at 2:25 a.m. on westbound Newell Avenue and Interstate 680.

A vehicle carrying four passengers, possibly traveling from Mount Diablo, collided with a support pillar on Newell Avenue beneath the Interstate 680 overpass.

The crash resulted in the death of a 15-year-old passenger in the front seat, who was killed instantly.

Police arrested the juvenile driver on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter. The investigation is ongoing, including whether alcohol played a role in the incident.

Following the crash, the remaining passengers fled the scene on foot. A relative later transported them to a hospital in San Jose, where police were notified. The other two passengers were not arrested.
