1 Person Dead in Carlsbad Motorcycle Accident on State Route 78 near Borrego Springs

CARLSBAD, CA (October 31, 2023) – Saturday morning, a brutal motorcycle crash on State Route 78 near Borrego Springs killed one person.

The incident happened at around 10:10 a.m. on State Route 78, east of Borrego Springs Road.

According to CHP Officer Jared Grieshaber, a westbound 2006 KTM motorcycle traveling on a privately maintained dirt road collided with a 2002 Yamaha WR250 motorcycle that was attempting to drive northbound from a private residence onto the dirt road.

Moreover, responders pronounced the 20-year-old driver of the KTM motorcycle, dead at the scene. Then, paramedics airlifted the male Yamaha driver to Palomar Medical Center with major injuries.

Furthermore, officers withheld the identity of the deceased, pending notification to the next of kin.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.

Due to limited information, the CHP continued to investigate the crash.
