1 Dead in Carlsbad Vehicle Crash on Interstate 5 near Cannon Road

CARLSBAD, CA (October 24, 2023) – Sunday night, a brutal auto accident on Interstate 5 near Cannon Road killed 1 person.

The incident occurred just before 10:00 p.m. on southbound Interstate 5 near the exit to Cannon Road.

Reports said that several freeway lanes were closed at the time due to construction which led to traffic backup when the incident occurred.

According to witnesses, a speeding pickup truck struck the back of a black sedan.

As a result, responders transported three people from the black sedan to the hospital. Meanwhile, one woman from the sedan was declared dead after arrival, while the conditions of the two other victims remained unknown.

Also, responders took the pickup driver to the hospital with unknown injuries. Eventually, the driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
