Encinitas Collision Leaves Two Hospitalized, One with Life-Threatening Injuries
Encinitas, CA (December 8, 2024) On Friday evening, a 24-year-old man was seriously hurt after a horrific 2-vehicle crash on Lake Drive.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office (SDCSO), the brutal incident happened at about 9:55 p.m. at the intersection with Santa Fe Drive.
Reports say that a 24-year-old male driver sustained life-threatening injuries after being ejected from his vehicle in a two-car collision.
Authorities say that the crash occurred at 9:55 p.m. at the intersection of Santa Fe and Lake Drives. Deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff’s Station responded to the scene.
Officials stated that the 24-year-old was driving a 2003 Toyota Tacoma eastbound on Santa Fe Drive. At the same time, a 16-year-old female driver, heading westbound in a 2016 Nissan Frontier, attempted a left turn onto Lake Drive on a green light that required yielding. The Tacoma and Frontier collided during the turn, causing the Tacoma to overturn and eject its driver.
Emergency responders transported the driver of the Tacoma to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla with critical injuries. His 23-year-old passenger also sustained injuries but is expected to recover. Meanwhile, the teen driver of the Frontier was unharmed and remained at the scene.
Authorities have ruled out alcohol or drugs as contributing factors, and the investigation into the collision continues.
Drive Safely
When driving, always be mindful of traffic laws and road conditions. If you encounter a vehicle or driver behaving erratically—whether by weaving between lanes, tailgating, or speeding, give them plenty of space. It’s often best to change lanes and stay clear of dangerous drivers.
Drive responsibly and stay vigilant at intersections to help prevent accidents. Always yield to oncoming traffic when making left turns, especially on yield lights.
