Two Fatally Injured in Wrong-Way Collision at Angeles Crest Highway
LA CAÑADA FLINTRIDGE, CA (September 9, 2018) – Early Sunday morning, two drivers were killed in a wrong-way crash on the 210 Freeway. The deceased victims were later identified by the Los Angeles County coroner as 24-year-old Bruce Alvarenga of Panorama City and 32-year-old Kevork Khamisian of Sun Valley.
Officials with the California Highway Patrol were alerted about a wrong-way driver traveling eastbound on the westbound lanes of the 210 Freeway at Wheatland Avenue, shortly before 2:00 AM. Patrol vehicles tried to catch the driver when authorities received another call about a collision at Angeles Crest Highway.
On of the driver was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders, while the other driver was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical staff.
It was not immediately clear which person was driving on the wrong side of the road. Investigators stated that drugs and alcohol are not considered to be contributing factors in the fatal crash. Some westbound lanes of the 210 Freeway were temporarily closed while crews cleaned up and officials conducted their investigation. They reopened by 6:00 AM the same morning.
