Briar Hoover Dies in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Collision on West Smith Enke Road Near Highway 347

MARICOPA, AZ (January 30, 2020)—A hit-and-run driver struck and killed a pedestrian on West Smith Enke Road near Highway 347 on Thursday.

Authorities need the public’s help in determining the whereabouts of the hit-and-run driver who struck and killed 20-year-old Briar Hoover.

The incident befell around 4 a.m. when Hoover reportedly fell from a van moments before the vehicle struck him; however, the driver failed to stop and provide him with assistance.

According to Maricopa Fire Department spokesman Brad Pitassi, paramedics transported Hoover to Chandler Regional Medical Center, but as a result of his injuries, he died shortly after.

Police described the vehicle as a dark-colored sedan. Because the crash drew a traffic build-up, another driver failed to see the stopped cars ahead and sideswiped another driver, breaking the axle on his car. Thankfully, he and the other parties involved escaped injury.

Anyone with information surrounding this hit-and-run pedestrian accident should contact local authorities.
