According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 4:30 PM. Shannon was driving the cart at an unsafe speed downhill on the cart path. Then, the cart lost control and turned toward the bridge rail. There, it went down into a creek at the Apple Mountains Golf Resort.

Emergency responders pronounced Shannon dead at the scene. His passenger, identified as 31-year-old Clayton Rogers of Sacramento, suffered major injuries. Updates on his current condition remain unknown.
