Brenda Begg Involved in Deadly Three-Car Accident on Highway 1 Near Constellation Road

LOMPOC, CA (July 29, 2019) – A Lompoc man perished in a fiery three-car accident along Highway 1 near Constellation Road Friday.

According to investigators, the incident unfolded when a man in a dark-colored Toyota tried passing up slower drivers.

Around 11 a.m., the 50-year-old in the southbound 1995 Toyota Corolla was traveling in the left lane when he allegedly grew impatient behind a slower car. A third car in the right lane was traveling the speed limit, says California Highway Patrol.

However, with both southbound lanes occupied, the man traveled to the center median to pass the slower traffic. However, as his Corolla entered the median strip, his car struck the driver’s side of the vehicle in front of him.

Due to this impact, the Toyota spun out of control and careered into the northbound lanes where it plowed into a 2014 Ford Explorer.

Following the accident, the white Ford SUV became disabled in the lane while the Toyota veered down an embankment and caught on fire. Unfortunately, the Toyota driver died in the accident while 55-year-old Brenda Begg, of Lompoc, suffered major injuries.

The other driver whom the Toyota clipped suffered no injuries.

At this time, officers are investigating this crash further to determine any details that might have led to the accident.
