Branden Cullen Hospitalized After Crash on West Loop 289 in Lubbock

Lubbock, TX (January 30, 2025) – Authorities confirmed on Thursday that a crash on West Loop 289 on Wednesday evening seriously injured 39-year-old motorcyclist Branden Cullen.

According to police, backed-up traffic led to a secondary collision that injured two additional people. 

Authorities closed the southbound lanes of West Loop from 19th Street to 34th Street during the investigation.

In a press release, Lubbock Police stated that the Major Crash Unit is investigating the incident. 

Officers responded to the 3300 block of West Loop 289 at 5:21 p.m. on January 29 after receiving reports of a crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV. 

Upon arrival, they found Cullen suffering from serious injuries and transported him by ambulance to University Medical Center.

Preliminary findings suggest that both the motorcycle and SUV were traveling south when Cullen’s motorcycle struck the rear of the SUV, driven by 44-year-old Susan Cox. 

Cox was not injured in the crash.

A secondary collision occurred as other vehicles attempted to avoid the initial crash. 

Those involved sustained minor injuries.
