Child Killed in Tragic Bike Accident in Fontana

FONTANA, CA (April 2, 2019) – An 11-year-old boy lost his life Sunday after colliding with another child’s bicycle along Citrus Avenue near Fontana Avenue.

According to a Fontana Police Department news release, the tragic incident happened in the 9200 block of Citrus Avenue. Around 3 p.m., a group of friends was riding bikes in an apartment complex.

The 11-year-old boy, however, collided with the rear tire of an 8-year-old boy’s bicycle. The impact caused the child to strike the handlebars and fall onto the floor.

Soon after, the boy’s mother attempted to rush him to a nearby hospital but stopped at San Bernardino and Juniper avenues to call for help.

According to police, paramedics responded to her location and treated the young victim before hospitalizing him. Subsequently, the 11-year-old succumbed to his injuries.

Although neither child bore a helmet at the time of the accident, police do not suspect this to be a factor in the child’s injuries.

Because details are limited, the Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating further.
