Soap Lake, WA (February 20, 2025) – A pickup/big rig crash on State Route 17 left 2 people hurt and hospitalized on Monday evening.

According to the Grant County Fire District 7, the shocking turn of events happened around 7:30 p.m. on the intersection with State Route 28.

Reports say that the collision between the pickup truck and a semi-truck temporarily shut down the intersection

Authorities say that when the pickup truck attempted to turn onto SR 17 but failed to yield to an oncoming semi-truck from Wilson Creek.

The semi struck the rear side panel of the pickup, injuring two elderly Canadian citizens inside.

Emergency responders transported them to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Officials arrived with an ambulance, two engines, and two utility vehicles to provide medical assistance and secure the scene.

Authorities briefly closed the intersection for safety reasons, with the road expected to reopen by 8:45 p.m.

Officials note that this intersection sees an average of 5 to 10 crashes annually, raising ongoing safety concerns. Drivers are urged to remain cautious when navigating this area.
